Monkey Safety
The aim of this project is to harness the power of design to address pressing challenges within the realm of sustainable development goals (SDGs). By applying design thinking principles and innovative methodologies, we seek to identify opportunities where design interventions can make a transformative impact, fostering environmental sustainability, social equity, economic prosperity, and technological advancement. The SDG I went forward with was SDG no 15, LIFE ON LAND
Design Brief
The project aims to enhance safety awareness among residents of Badarpur, with a particular focus on school children, who reside in an area populated by monkeys. Through comprehensive safety measures and educational initiatives, the project endeavors to equip individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary to mitigate potential risks associated with monkey encounters and foster harmonious coexistence within their shared habitat.
Concept
I decided the project outcome to be a safety instruction video, similar to the ones seen on airplanes, except this one focuses on staying safe around the monkeys in Badarpur village.
Due to time constraints, I opted for basic animations aka animatics. The video provides straightforward safety tips, with both comedy and serious facts. It addresses topics such as safeguarding your belongings and respecting the monkeys' personal space. It's not only about safety precautions; it's also a delightful way to acknowledge our spe cial connection with the village monkeys
Art Style
My goal was to create an art style that combines elements from the cartoons I loved as a child. Picture bright colors, cloud-like trees, and animated cars inspired by Kick Buttowski. The characters are exaggerated, with big heads and small legs, similar to Mr. Bean.
I decided on an animatic style instead of full animation. It's like a storyboard come to life, using still images that move slightly to tell the story. Each picture transitions smoothly into the next, giving the feeling of movement without needing full animation. It's a practical choice that still captures the essence of the story with charm and simplicity.
